MEET THE DUO
Chrisley Benton Taylor
Let me introduce myself!
Hi! I’m Chris. I am a wildlife photographer with a passion for travel and adventure based in Calabash, NC. I have had a love for the arts since I was a child; a passion born from my parents. My father was a hobby woodworker and my mom had me immersed in the colors, dances, and fashion of our Philippine culture as soon as my eyes could see. Those eyes have been drawn to capturing the world around me with photography since I was a teenager and I have always wanted to share my curiosity for the wild and vision of the world around it with everyone.
How did I get my start?
Growing up I spent my time exploring the vast ecosystems and meeting various species of Florida, where I was born. There is nothing that compares to kayaking with some jellyfish and manatees or a Florida sunset, except maybe a Blue Ridge sunrise and a camping trip. Those mountains are the best “black hole”, as my husband and I call them, that you could ever get sucked into as I quickly discovered when I moved there.
The mountain town of Brevard, NC was where I met one of the best professors, who shared her passions for the ancient world in Greece with me. Working on the dig site that summer I fell in love with travel as much as wildlife.
What am I doing now?
Since I returned to the states and graduated, I have ping-ponged between Florida and NC, as I did when I was a child. I spent time in Tampa Bay where I interned on the media team at, what was then called, Lowry Park Zoo. I freelanced while my husband was in the military, and I worked as a reporter and photographer for a food blog in Orlando.
Now I’m settled in the little place I call home in Calabash where my passion remains to capture the importance of preserving the Earth and it's treasures. I I couldn’t do it without the help and support of my best friend and husband Jeff and our beloved fur babies: Athena, our cat, Macaroni and Spaetzle, our two dogs.
Jeff Taylor
My name’s Jeff (bonus points for you if you read that like Channing Tatum’s character said it in 22 Jump Street). Chris and I have been together over a decade; through college, my time in the military, multiple moves to various states and multiple jobs; we’ve been around the block.
My purpose is to support Chris in all aspects of her life to the best of my ability. She is the one who introduced me to fine art and through her I’ve gained a better understanding and appreciation for the creative aspects of life. More than that, I’ve come to covet documenting moments in the present. Our mission is to capture the present to remember in the future, so that nothing may be lost to the past. Photography is, in my opinion, the most crucial practice for human kind. Through it, may we never forget the past, whether it be good or bad or happy or sad. It’s a time machine to see things lost or to travel back to better days. It’s a reminder of what was, to be grateful for what is and to look forward to what may be. This is our motivation and our drive to give our best effort in every picture, and I look forward to every single one of them.
